In taekwondo, Korean language commands are often used. Korean numerals may be used as prompts or commands. Often, students count in Korean during their class, and during tests they are usually asked what certain Korean words (used in class) mean. These words are fairly common amongst taekwondo schools, but pronunciation can vary greatly.

Taekwondo Ranks and Taekwondo Tickets

Taekwondo ranks are typically separated into "junior" and "senior," or "student" and "instructor," sections. The junior section typically consists of ten ranks indicated by the Korean word geup also Romanized as gup or kup. The junior ranks are usually identified by belts of various colors, depending on the school, so these ranks are sometimes called "color belts". Geup rank may be indicated by stripes on belts rather than by colored belts. Students begin at tenth geup and advance toward first geup.
The senior section is typically made up of nine ranks. These ranks are called Dan, also referred to as "black belts" or "degrees" as in "third Dan" or "third degree black belt". Black belts begin at first degree and advance to second, third, and so on. The degree is often indicated on the belt itself with stripes, Roman numerals, or other methods; but sometimes black belts are plain and unadorned regardless of rank.
To advance from one rank to the next, students typically complete promotion tests in which they demonstrate their proficiency in the various aspects of the art before a panel of judges or their teacher. Promotion tests vary from school to school, but may include such elements as the execution of patterns, which combine various techniques in specific sequences; the breaking of boards to demonstrate the ability to use techniques with both power and control; sparring and self-defense to demonstrate the practical application and control of techniques; and answering questions on terminology, concepts and history to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the art. For higher Dan tests, students are sometimes required to take a written test or submit a research paper in addition to taking the practical test.
Promotion from one geup to the next can proceed rapidly in some schools, since schools often allow geup promotions every two, three, or four months. Students of geup rank learn the most basic techniques first and then move on to more advanced techniques as they approach first Dan. Many of the older and more traditional schools often take longer to allow students to test for higher ranks than newer, more contemporary schools, as they may not have the required testing intervals.
In contrast, promotion from one Dan to the next can take years. The general rule is that a black belt may advance from one rank to the next only after the number of year’s equivalent to the current rank. For example, a newly promoted third-degree black belt may not be allowed to advance to fourth-degree until four years have passed. Some organizations also have age requirements related to Dan promotions, and may grant younger student’s poom ranks rather than Dan ranks until they reach a certain age.

Taekwondo Features and Olympic Taekwondo Tickets

Taekwondo is known for its emphasis on kicking techniques, which distinguishes it from martial arts such as karate or southern styles of kung fu. The rationale is that the leg is the longest and strongest weapon a martial artist has, and kicks thus have the greatest potential to execute powerful strikes without successful retaliation. Historically, the Koreans thought that the hands were too valuable to be used in combat.
Taekwondo as a martial art is popular with people of both genders and of many ages. Physically, taekwondo develops strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina. An example of the union of mental and physical discipline is the breaking of wooden boards, bricks or tiles, which requires both physical mastery of the technique and the concentration to focus one's power.
A taekwondo student typically wears a uniform (dobok), often white but sometimes black, with a belt tied around the waist. There are at least three major styles of do bok, with the most obvious differences being in the style of jacket: the cross over front jacket that resembles traditional Asian clothing, the V neck jacket no cross over typically worn by WTF practitioners and the vertical closing front jacket typically worn by ITF practitioners. The belt color and any insignia thereon indicate the student's rank. In general, darker the color, higher the rank. The school or place where instruction is given is called the do jang. The grandmaster of the do jang is called a gwan jang nim; Master senior instructor or head of do jang is called sa beom nim; Instructor is called gyo san nim; Assistant Instructor is called jo gyo nim.

International Taekwondo Federation and Olympic Taekwondo Tickets

International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) is a Taekwondo organization founded on March 22, 1966, by General Choi Hong Hi in Seoul, South Korea. The ITF exists to promote and encourage the growth of the Korean martial art of Taekwondo. Since South Korean Government abandoned ITF, it established World Taekwondo Federation to continue the mission of Taekwondo's globalization.
Once General Choi Hong Hi was exiled out of South Korea, he returned to North Korea and introduced the organization which settled there. In 2001, the ITF Congress voted for General Choi Hong Hi as President for four years of the six-year term, then for his son (Choi Jung Hwa) to serve as President for the remaining two years. This was overturned (whether legally or illegally is disputed) by General Choi, causing a rift between himself and his son. Choi Jung Hwa split away from his father and created another organization, which Choi Jung Hwa claimed to, be the true ITF. While the majority of the TKD world stayed with General Choi, many others decided to follow Choi Jung Hwa. General Choi subsequently died in June 2002, having never reconciled with his son. On his deathbed, General Choi said that he wanted a man known as Chang Ung to take over as President by General Choi Hong Hi at his deathbed in June 2002, who is also an IOC member from North Korea. An Extraordinary Congress of the ITF was called with Chang Ung declared as the new President; but the legality of this Congress is disputed. Those claiming that the Congress was illegal held another Congress, at which Master Tran Trieu Quan an 8th degree black belt was elected as President. Thus there are now three organizations claiming to be the ITF. ITF's main functions are to coordinate and approve tournaments and seminars, set standards for teaching patterns, sparring, and destruction and collaborate with affiliated member organizations, and service members in regards to rank and certifications.
The upsurge in aggressive behavior in today’s society, has led to a loss of the basic moral values that many people once shared. Analysts have noted that many people are misguided, left to search for their own values in a disillusioned society where of war, crime and corruption is common. General Choi Hong Hi believed through the philosophy of Taekwondo that we could make the world a more peaceful place. In a time where much is corrupt it is hard for one to find their way, to tell right from wrong, or to even resist temptation into doing that which believes is wrong. The philosophy of Taekwondo is summarized in the oath and the tenets.

World Taekwondo Federation and Olympic Taekwondo Tickets

Under World Taekwondo Federation and Olympic rules, sparring is a full contact event and takes place between two competitors in an area measuring 8 meters square. A win can occur by points, or if one competitor is unable to continue the other competitor wins. Each match consists of three semi-continuous rounds of contact, with one minute's rest between rounds. There are two age categories: 14–17 years and 18 years and older.
Points are awarded for permitted, accurate, and powerful techniques to the legal scoring areas; light contact does not score any points. The only techniques allowed are kicks delivering a strike using an area of the foot below the ankle and punches delivering a strike using the closed fist.  In most competitions, points are awarded by three corner judges using electronic scoring tallies. Several A-Class tournaments, however, are now trialing electronic scoring equipment contained within competitors' body protectors. This limits corner judges to scoring only attacks to the head. Some believe that the new electronic scoring system will help to reduce controversy concerning judging decisions, but this technology is still not universally accepted. Beginning in 2009, a kick or punch that makes contact with the opponent's hogu (the body guard that functions as a scoring target) scores one point; if a kick to the hogu involved a technique that includes fully turning the attacking competitor's body, so that the back is fully exposed to the targeted competitor during execution of the technique, an additional point is awarded; a kick to the head scores three points; as of October 2010 an additional point is awarded if a turning kick was used to execute this attack. Punches to the head are not allowed. As of March 2010, no additional points are awarded for knocking down an opponent beyond the normal points awarded for legal strikes.
At the end of three rounds, the competitor with more points wins the match. In the event of a tie at the end of three rounds, a fourth "sudden death" overtime round will be held to determine the winner after a one minute rest period. If there is no score in the additional round then the winner shall be decided by superiority as determined by the refereeing official.
Until 2008, if one competitor gained a 7-point lead over the other, or if one competitor reached a total of 12 points, then that competitor was immediately declared the winner and the match ended. These rules were abolished by the WTF at the start of 2009. In October 2010 the WTF reintroduced a point gap rule. Under the new rule if a competitor has a 12 point lead at the end of the second round or achieves a 12 point lead at any point in the 3rd round then the match is over and the athlete in the lead is declared the winner.

ExCel London and Olympic Taekwondo Tickets

ExCeL London is an exhibitions and conference centre in the London Borough of New ham, England. It is located on a 0.40 km2 site on the northern quay of the Royal Victoria Dock in London Docklands, between Canary Wharf and London City Airport.
The centre was built by Sir Robert Mc Alpine, opened in November 2000, and in May 2008, was acquired by Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company. Phase II was completed on 1 May 2010. This £164m expansion increased ExCeL's event space by 50% and added further meeting space, banqueting facilities, and event space. The extension also includes a flexible 5,000 seat International Conference Centre.
The Royal Victoria Dock closed to commercial traffic in 1981, but it is still accessible to shipping. The centre's waterfront location is used when it hosts the annual London Boat Show, with visiting vessels able to moor alongside the centre; for example the 2005 show was visited by HMS Sutherland The exhibition building itself consists of two column-free, rectangular, sub dividable halls of approximately 479,493 square feet each on either side of a central boulevard containing catering facilities and information points. There are also three sets of function rooms, one overlooking the water, another above the western end of the central boulevard, and the third on the north side of the building. These are used for smaller meetings, seminars, presentations, and corporate hospitality. There are 5 hotels, more than 30 bars and restaurants, plus 3700 parking spaces on the campus. In April 2009, ExCeL played host to the 2009 G20 London summit.
ExCeL London is served by two light rail stations. The main western entrance is directly linked to Custom House for ExCel station and the eastern entrance is connected to Prince Regent Station, both of which are served by the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). During major shows with large visitor attendances, extra shuttle trains are run between the venue and Canning Town station, with interchange at Canning Town station to London Underground's Jubilee Line. ExCeL London is located near London City Airport station. The DLR and a number of dual-carriageway roads connect the centre to the airport and the important nearby office-and-commercial district of Canary Wharf. For the 2012 Summer Olympics, ExCeL London will be divided into four sports halls with capacities ranging from 6,000 to 10,000 that will be used for Taekwondo.

He is a former Iranian Azerbaijani Taekwondo athlete who became the most successful Iranian athlete in Olympic history after winning gold in the 2008 Summer Olympics. He competed in the Men's 68 kg featherweight at the 2004 Summer Olympics and won the gold medal. In addition, he competed in the Men's 80 kg at the2008 Summer Olympics and won his second Olympic gold medal. Earlier in his career and in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Saei had won the bronze medal. He was elected as member of City Council of Tehran in 2006 local election. On 24 July 2011, he was elected as chairman of the Nassaji Mazandaran FC.
He has been practicing Tae Kwon Do since he was six years old. Having previously competed in Lightweight (67–72 kg), he is the 1999 World Champion and 2003 World Championship silver medalist. When the Iranian town of Bam was devastated in the 2003 earthquake, Saei put his medals on auction to raise money for the victims. He has been World Champion in the Tae Kwon Do World Championships two times. Currently, he is a senior at the Iran Physical Education University.
In the first match against the Nepalese Deepak Bista his right hand was fractured during the fight however he did not indicate his injury throughout the entire competition despite enormous pain until he won the final against the Italian Mauro Sarmiento. Immediately after winning the Gold medal his hand was in plaster cast. Previously he wanted to say farewell after winning in the final, but his coach Reza Mehmandoust has advised him not to do it. By winning his gold medal, Saei ensured that Iran was leaving Beijing with a better result than their poor showing at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, where they bagged only one bronze medal. Tae Hong Choi was born in 1935 and lived alive till March 8, 2009. Choi was a grandmaster in taekwondo, winner of multiple martial arts titles and a teacher of thousands of students in Oregon.
When Choi was a boy in Seoul, he had a paper route. When he first approached the martial artists he met on his route, they sent him away. After seven days of his pestering, the men seemed to relent, but they put him to work instead of teaching him. Choi worked for them for three weeks before they were sufficiently impressed to begin teaching him. He earned his black belt in two years. He soon began winning titles including Korean National Champion. Eventually he earned a ninth-degree black belt, the sport's highest designation. He also studied for a Masters degree in Health and physical education.
Choi was a Korean Marine Corp Training officer stationed in South Vietnam. He was part of the detail that guarded the U.S. Embassy.  He taught hand-to-hand combat skills to Korean, South Vietnamese and U.S. Special Forces.  That got him his next job of instructing hand-to-hand combat for top-level U.S. security agents.
Choi founded the Oregon State Taekwondo Association and the Northwest Black Belt Association and was its president for 30 years. In 1980, Choi served as head of team at the first Pan American Taekwondo Championships. Philosophy of Taekwondo and Taekwondo Tickets

Taekwondo is not just a physical practice or sport. Taekwondo is a martial art a whole system of physical exercises, spiritual development and philosophic principles. So it is closely related to the philosophy of the East, and mainly to the dualistic ideal of harmony (Yin and Yang). Nevertheless many people do not or cannot understand the martial arts ideal and consider their philosophy as a type of religious principles. That is not right, of course. The martial arts, including Taekwondo, have not been formed as a religion for itself. The right understanding of a martial art could be the way of the practitioner to see his own self and/or the rest world, but no more.
The basis in Taekwondo practicing is the technique. The training system is an endless repetition and perfection of the studied techniques. We mean not only the working out of separate hits, blocks, but sparring and forms as well. That striving to skill perfection, body fitness respectfully and the satisfaction which follows is the first component of Taekwondo. That is the so called technical ideal. It is the first step of each beginner.
As it was mentioned, Taekwondo is not just physical exercises but an art as well. The concept of Taekwondo art is the union of mind and spirit aiming at self-perfection. When a man is heartily involved in his self-development, thinks over and analyses his acts, then it comes the real human mature not only physical, but spiritual and moral one.
That desire for self-perfection is natural. But many lives in the surrounding environment, not out of it. That is the reason for the philosophical ideal of Taekwondo as a wish for uniting man and nature through practicing Taekwondo. It is a way of living based on the harmony between man and manhood. So if someone works on hit techniques only he will never realize the concept of Taekwondo.

In the modern world Taekwondo develops as a sport and a system of physical education with great success. That is possible only through the union of the three ideals of Taekwondo - the ideal of technical perfection, the ideal of combining mind and spirit in order to help the process of self-perfection and the extrovert ideal - the harmony between man and nature which is the basic one in many Eastern philosophical doctrines. All that could be reached by the constant physical trainings - a main part of Taekwondo practicing. The sport aspect of Taekwondo is in the natural human striving to act, contest and conquer. The practitioner aims at developing strength, speed and precision. Those strivings are expressed in sparring competitions.
Taekwondo spirit is in the desire to realize the values of its practicing. Because the technique is the basic part of the trainings, the spiritual development is in connection with the technical one. Taekwondo realization is a personal affair. Often the practitioner creates an image of the ideal Taekwondo man who becomes his own ideal. Of course, that is an individual image, formed on the basis of the long training way and is not a real person, because the process of self-perfection is endless and therefore, nobody could be perfect.

Saturday, 29 October 2011

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art and the national sport of South Korea. In Korean, tae means "to strike or break with foot"; kwon means "to strike or break with fist"; and do means "way", "method", or "art". Thus, taekwondo may be loosely translated as "the art of the foot and fist" or "the art of kicking and punching."
It combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport, exercise, and in some cases meditation and philosophy. In 1989, Taekwondo was the world's most popular martial art in terms of number of practitioners.
The oldest Korean martial art was an amalgamation of unarmed combat styles developed by the three rival Korean kingdoms of Goguryeo,Silla and Baekje, where young men were trained in unarmed combat techniques to develop strength, speed, and survival skills. The most popular of these techniques was subak, with taekkyeon being the most popular of the segments of subak. Those who demonstrated strong natural aptitude were selected as trainees in the new special warrior corps, called the Hwarang.
Taekwondo in its current form was introduced on Monday 11th April 1955 by General Choi Hong Hi.
Although this is the date that Taekwondo as a name was introduced, Taekwondo as a martial art has been practised for over 1,300 years under its ancient name Taek-Kyon.
The exact origins of this martial art are a mystery.
However, Ancient Korea was made up on three Kingdoms:  Silla, Koguryo and Baekche.  Silla was the smallest of three kingdoms and faced constant invasion from Koguryo and Baekche.  Taek-Kyon was practised by a group of youths known as the Hwarang-Do.  They created a powerful army and together they unifed the three kingdoms.  Following the unification the Hwarang-Do spread the teachings of Taek-Kyon throughout Korea.  However, Taek-Kyon became almost extinct during the Yi Dynasty and the Japanese occupation.
Taek-Kyon began to flourish again from 1945 following the liberation and since then it has gone from strength to strength to its current form of Taekwondo.
It is now practised in over sixty different countries worldwide.  It also differs from other martial arts as it is one of the most advanced in the effectiveness of the techniques used and their sophistication.  It also provides an equally good physical and mental balance to its practitioners.
